I have learned that if you are not born in a rich family, nothing in life will come easy for you. You will have to work hard for every little bit. You better learn fast that there is no short cut to success. Sometimes you do get lucky, but that is rare. It also helps if you are born a genius.
I was not born rich, nor was I a genius. My father died when I was 4, but had a great mother who raised 7 children with no money. I was lucky to find a great mentor and friend who guided me in the right direction when I was back home.
In U.S. I was forced to learn everything on my own quickly. Going to school, learning to earn a living, with no money, no relative, no friends, no language skill, it was a great trial and error experience. I must say it's been a hell of a ride, and a great life.
Success must be measured by not only the achievements of an individual but also what obstacles he did overcome.
